FAQs

What will be done during my physical therapy session?

During your first visit, the physiotherapist will perform a complete assesssment and also provide your first treatment. Depending on your condition, your physiotherapist may use mobilization of tissues and joints, exercise therapy; postural, gait, balance and co-ordination re-training; and electrotherapy or ultrasound. Rest assure that the physiotherapist will choose the best treatment options for you.

Do I need a doctor's referral to see a physiotherapist?

No, you do not need a doctor's referral to see a physiotherapist because a physiotherapist is a primary healthcare provider. However, some insurance providers may need a doctor's referral in order for you to be reimbursed.

My doctor referred me to another clinic. Can I still come to InStep?

Yes, you sure can!

Are physiotherapy services covered by OHIP?

OHIP does provide some coverage to persons 65 and over, and 19 and younger, those on ODSP or Family works, long-term care facilities, or some persons who have been treated in hospital overnight. If you do qualify, you will have to go to one of the few registered OHIP clinics in Ontario. InStep is not a an OHIP registered clinic.

Are you able to bill my insurance provider directly?

In some circumstances, if your coverage allows for assigned benefit, we are able to do so. Most of our patients do pay at the end of their visit and we provide a detailed receipt which they can submit their insurance provider for reimbursement.
